Congress holds massive rally in Kollam
KOLLAM
The district rally organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) on Sunday was reportedly a show of strength by the Congress. The rally which began from Asramam Maidan was led by DCC president Kadavur Sivadasan and former KPCC president C.V. Padmarajan.Others who led the rally include party leaders N. Azhakeshan, V. Sathyaseelan, Karumalil Sukumaran, Sooranad Rajashekaran, A. Shanavas Khan, R. Chandrashekar, D. Semanthabhadran, Sooraj Ravi, George D. Kattil, Saraswathy Kunjukrishnan, Thankachi Prabakaran, Shaida Kamal and Bindu Krishna.
After 20 yrs
It was after a gap of more than twenty years that the DCC held a district rally. The rally was organised in connection with the district conference of the party. The rally passed through the Sankar’s Hospital junction, Chinnakada, Chamakada, and the Armed Reserve Camp junction to reach the public meeting venue at Cantonment Maidan, which was named R. Sankar Nagar for the occasion.
The public meeting was inaugurated by Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Sivadasan. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, UDF convener P.P. Thankachan, former KPCC president Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, AICC secretary Kodikunnil Suresh and former Minister G. Karthikeyan addressed.
